The Common Flameback (Dinopium javanense) is a widespread, golden-backed woodpecker found across tropical Asia, known for its distinctive triking appearance and loud calls. Also called the Common Goldenback, is a medium-sized woodpecker (28-30 cm). Males and females differ; as males have a bright red crest while females have a black crest with white streaks.

It can be differentiated from the similar Greater Flameback by its smaller bill and a black nape.

Its fairly common and probablt the most common woodpecker throughout Seberang Perai, including the suburds.
