Least Concern

The Crested Serpent Eagle is a distinctive medium to large size Asian raptor known for its black-and-white crest, brown plumage with white barring, specializing in hunting snakes and reptiles, less commonly amphibians over forested and even sub-urban areas bodering mangroves, orchads and planatations. This majestic bird of prey uses broad wings to soar and has a loud, high-pitched call, often perching and hunting from above, though it will follow prey onto the ground.

It is fairly common all over the country, and in Seberang Perai it is also very common, with at least a pair in a suitable patch of forest or suitable habitat. Its is very secretive in its nesting behaviour, its nest is very well concealed usually at a central fork of main branches of a suitable tree, including mangrove trees.
