Least Concern

The Eastern Yellow Wagtail is a slender, long-tailed bird known for its bright yellow underparts and constant tail-wagging, breeding in Arctic tundra and migrating to open, wet areas in Southeast Asia, where it eats insects, spiders, and worms, often seen in grasslands, paddyfields or near water during non-breeding seasons. It’s characterized by a greyish-olive back, black tail with white outer feathers, and distinctive head patterns, though females and young birds are duller.

Very common at paddyfields throughout Seberang Perai, thousands are estimated to roost at the Teluk Air Tawar – Kuala Muda IBA mangroves, but recent studies indicate that numbers have reduced.
