Least Concern

One of the largest wader (the other being the Far Eastern Curlew) in its range, brown/grey with a white back, long legs, and a notably long, down-curved bill. Famous for its evocative, bubbling “curloo-oo” sound.

It breeds on moors on the northern temperate zone of Europe and Russia and Far East Asia, winters on estuaries and coasts across Europe and Asia.

Its a fairly common visitor to Sebarang Perai, with about 50 per season at Penaga mudflats and coast, and ten’s in Seberang Perai Tengah and Selatan.
