Least Concern

A coastal waterbird found across Asia and Oceania, known for its two color forms: a white or light morph and a dark morph. Also called the Eastern Reef Heron, it’s a small, short-legged heron with greenish-yellow legs and bill, living on rocky shores, reefs, and mangroves, feeding on marine life.

A pair or two can be found along any coastal or mangrove stretch especially if it has a rocky shore. It is common over the whole coastal areas of West Malaysia, the dark morph can easily be discerned flying towards the island from Seberang along the Penang bridge, presumably to forage on the island.
