Near Threatened

The brown-banded bamboo shark is a small, nocturnal, bottom-dwelling shark. Juveniles have distinct dark bands that fade to a uniform light brown as they mature into adults. Found in the Indo-West Pacific, they inhabit shallow coral reefs, tide pools, and sandy/muddy bottoms. They are carnivores that feed on benthic organisms like shrimp, crabs, worms, and small fishes.

They are known for their resilience and can survive out of water for up to 12 hours during low tide conditions. Unfortunately they could still be breathing when displayed at a fishmonger stall. It is fairly common all over the coastal areas of Seberang Perai.
