It is a large, nocturnal owl from Southeast Asian wetlands, known for its vibrant orange-brown feathers, bright yellow eyes, and “ear tufts” (horns).
It prefers wetlands habitat or where such habitat is easily accesible, therefore all mangroves habitat in West Malaysia.

Prey items, inlcudes; fishes, snakes, frogs but the diet for the nestling or chicks may become more varied.

In Seberang Perai, it is failry common, found in all district including the Teluk Air Tawar – Kuala Muda coastal IBA
