Least Concern

A leggy black and white waterbird with contrasting black back/wings with white underparts, long pink legs, thin black bill, white head/neck
makes it unmistakble with a distictive call. Prefers freshwater marshes and paddyfield, occasionably small numbers are found at coastal mudflats.

It is common throughout Seberang Perai with the local population increasing for reasons not completely clear. Flocks of up to thousand plus can be seen at the Permatang Pauh – Permatang Nibong Paddyfields.
