The Tawny Coster is a small, leathery-winged butterfly common in grassland habitats across its range, which includes the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and parts of China.
The tawny coster is a small, leathery-winged butterfly known for its distinctive orange and black spotted appearance. It belongs to the Nymphalidae, or brush-footed butterfly, family. The butterfly has reddish-orange (tawny) wings adorned with bold, distinct black spots and black borders.
It is known for its weak, slow, and fluttery flight, a characteristic that helps it evade predators. The tawny coster is common in grassland and scrub habitats. Native to India and Sri Lanka, it has rapidly expanded its range to include South-East Asia, including West Malaysia.
