Least Concern

The Ashy Drongo is a medium-sized, insectivorous bird known for its predominantly dark grey plumage, distinctive bright red eyes, and a long, deeply forked tail. It is widely distributed across South and Southeast Asia.

Ashy Drongos are common in wooded areas, forest edges, orchards, mangroves and woodlands. They are agile fliers, primarily catching insects in mid-air. They are often seen perched high on tree branches, aggressively chasing off other birds that enter their territory. They produce a variety of calls, including harsh and sweet notes, and are capable of mimicking the calls of other bird species.

Very common in Seberang Perai, in particular the mangroves of Penaga, with nesting records. The migratory species is best identified by them flying on the move in small flocks. The grey morph would most likely be the migratory species
