The Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) is a large, migratory wader found in West Malaysia. These birds are typically spotted in coastal areas like mudflats, sandflats, and sometimes wet paddy fields.
The Black-tailed Godwit is a fairly large bird with long dark legs, a long, straight, bi-colored bill (pink at the base, black at the tip), and a long neck.
In Flight a bold white wing bar, a white rump, and a distinctive black tail are easily visible.
In non-breeding plumage, temperate winter months, Decemeber to earlt March the bird has plain grayish-brown upperparts and a grayish-white breast.
However, the bird will develop a bright reddish-rufous head and breast, and dark barring on the belly during April May when they are about to return to their temperate breeding areas, in north east Asia. They may exhibit similar colours upon their first arrival during September.
