Circular Economy by Black Soldier Fly 

The BSF Circular Economy Programme is a community-based initiative in Penaga, Kepala Batas that empowers local residents to turn organic waste into income through Black Soldier Fly (BSF) rearing. Across three courses held in May and June 2025, 30 participants learned the full cycle — from household kitchen and garden waste segregation, to assembling BSF kits and harvesting larvae, to marketing BSF-derived products online via platforms like Shopee and Facebook. Each participant received a BSF starter kit to begin production at home. The programme evolved from grassroots activity into a registered enterprise, Gromal Agro Sdn Bhd, creating 10 new jobs and supporting 2 existing ones. In partnership with Pertubuhan IKRAM Malaysia and local agricultural authorities, the project reduced solid waste, cut animal feed costs for existing farms, and sparked a case study collaboration with UiTM on greenhouse gas emissions and material flow analysis.​
